Roll of Honour
Oliver Dansie
We regret to report that Oliver passed away in March 2014 at the age of 85. He was Medical Officer attached to 131 Para Engr Regt in the 1950s and 60s developing such an affinity with Sappers that he became a life member of the ACREOA.
As a medical student at the Middlesex Hospital; Oliver served in the SAS and during his National Service was MO to 2 PARA in Egypt.
After demobilisation and for the rest of his working life he was a GP in Welwyn as the second generation in a practice, now run by the third generation of Dansies. He was a man of many and varied interests and achievements: as a student he won, against the then RM hegemony, the Devizes to Westminster canoe race in a record time (a success he attributed to an ability to read the tide tables!). He was a countryman, naturalist and world expert on muntjacs, (the small deer which thrive in the Home Counties), and an accomplished sailor in his converted lifeboat `Stenos', a "Dunkirk Little Ship". Sympathetic to the ill and the hurt, less sympathetic to perceived malingerers.
Oliver Dansie was the ideal military medical officer.
