John (titch) Hughes

 

John (titch) Hughes

John was born in Hull on 16th May 1939 and sadly passed away on 18th October 2012.
He was one of 7 children who, during WWII were evacuated to Boston Lincolnshire. At the end of the war the family returned to Hull where John grew up.

Enlisting into the Corps of Royal Engineers he later volunteered to undertake pre-para selection and proudly served in 9 Indep Para Sqn RE during the period 1957-60.

He met Linda in 1965 whilst playing rugby for 'Ionians' RUFC and later played for Hull and East Riding RUFC where he coached the colt's team for 2 years. John and Linda were married on New Year's Eve in 1965.

He worked as an HGV driver for many years and later went into Public House management where he and Linda spent many successful and happy years.

 

In 2000 John was diagnosed with major heart problems, which resulted in a triple heart bypass operation. Making a full recovery from the heart operation John spent happy hours playing golf with his friends at the Brough Golf Club. During 2012 John suffered with many health problems and he sadly had to give up playing his beloved game of golf. John died peacefully and is survived by his wife Linda, their son and daughter and 5 grandchildren.
