Roll of Honour
Ken Mallett, 3rd Para Sqn RE 1943 -1947
Known to his friends as Ginger, Ken Mallett passed away on 2nd September 2011 aged 87. He joined 3 Para Sqn RE shortly after is became part of the new 6th Airborne Division. With them he took part in the 'D' Day landings, the Ardennes campaign and the Rhine Crossing.
Following the end of the European war he went with the renamed Sqn to the Far East and then on to Palestine. The Sqn's return to the UK coincided with his demobilisation and return to his family hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne to marry Kathleen and raise a family of three girls and a son.
He worked as an accountant with Scottish and Newcastle brewery until his retirement.
Very proud of his service with the Airborne Engineers he regularly attended the annual reunion dinner held in London each autumn. He also frequently visited Normandy for the 'D' Day commemorations and usually had a good supply of Newcastle brown ale which he was happy to share with his old comrades.
Ken was very much a family man and a staunch Roman Catholic; who never forgot his faith.
He will be greatly missed — RIP
