Larry Charles Perry
Larry was born on 25th March 1931 in Birmingham and passed away on 26th January 2009 at Good Hope Hospital after a short illness.
Larry enlisted in the Royal Engineers as a Sapper on 7th July 1949 and was based at Gibraltar Barracks in Aldershot. After serving with the Engineers he was posted to the 18th Battalion Parachute Regiment T.A. On disbandment of the 18th he joined the 131st Para Engineers Regiment T.A. in 1964 where he reached the rank of Sergeant and served for 14 years until he left to start his own Engineering business. The business flourished and he employed over 30 people for a period of 25 years before handing over the reigns to his son who continues to run the business. Larry was a widower after losing his wife Daisy some years ago. He leaves behind 2 daughters, Michele and Julie and a son Steve together with 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.
Larry's funeral took place on 6th February 2009 at Perry Barr Crematorium and 20 of his comrades from 131st Para Engineers were present and acted as Regimental guard of Honour suitably dressed with Red Berets.
He will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues and friends.
