Robert (Bob) Henry Seaman 2nd Feb 1928 - 9th Feb 2019

Bob passed away in Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, Kent on the morning of Saturday 9th February 2019 at 07:30 am with his family by his bedside. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but on further examination was found to have the disease rather more widespread. He had only recently attained 91 years of age. Robert Henry Seaman, known to many as Bob, was born in 1928 in a little village called Boosebeck, Cleveland and was the youngest of three children to James and Margaret. At the age of seven the family left this little village to head south and settled in Niton under Cliffe on the Isle of Wight. At Portsmouth on the 6th October 1942, at the age of 14, Bob, enlisted into the Army and the General Service Corps & the Corps of Royal Engineers and was posted to the Army Apprentice College, Chepstow as a Fitter RE. Bob served in the following Airborne Units: In 1972 after 29 years 119 days service Bob was discharged from the Army and the Corps of Royal Engineers, at the Rank of Warrant Officer Class 1. On leaving the Corps Bob, worked for a number of large companies which included Laing's and Kent County Council, looking after the heating systems for Nursing Homes, Schools and Hospitals until his retirement in 1993. Retirement allowed Bob to spend more time with two of his greatest passions, caravanning and gardening especially, growing fruit & vegetables.
Bob was a devoted Husband to his late wife Pam, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a proud member of the AEA and a much loved & valued member of the AEA Chatham Branch, being one of its original founding members.
Bob's funeral service was held on Thursday the 28th February 2019 at St Barbara's Garrison Church, Brompton. Attending were a number of AEA members along with other Military Veterans. On parade were several Standards and Standard Bearers including the AEA National Standard, Bugler and Piper. As the Funeral Cortege left the Church, AEA members and Military Veterans lined the route and give one final Salute to Bob. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
