Roll of Honour
Ben A Taverner
Ben passed away on Thursday 18th February 2010 quite suddenly and unexpected.
Prior to conscription Ben worked for a top quality wood veneer fabricator which in the early days of the war were directed onto war work fabricating components for gliders and some aircraft.
He was conscripted in 1946/1947 and became a paratrooper with 3rd Airborne Sqn RE at Perham Down. They were part of the 2nd Brigade of 6th Airborne Division, moving eventually to Neumunster in Schleswig Holstein BAOR in 1948.
A regular attendee at the 6th AB Div RE reunion dinner at the Victory Club he eventually joined the AEA and the Chatham Branch attending almost all of the monthly meetings all the way from Southend with the Woolley's and all of the branch pilgrimages to Normandy.
Ben has to be the original " Quiet Man " very happy with his own company, a pint and a Manikin cigar.
A sad loss to us all and our condolences go to wife Doris daughter Angela and family.
He was given a good send off with several branch members attending the funeral.
Farewell Old Pal, God Bless.
